The American Association of School Librarians, a division of the American Library Association, is accepting applications from school librarians for its AASL Innovative Reading Grant program. A single grant in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded to support the planning and implementation of a unique and innovative program that motivates and encourages children to read more. The proposed project should promote the importance of reading and facilitate literacy development by supporting current reading research, practice, and policy. In addition, the project must be specifically designed for children (grades K-9) in a school library setting, encourage innovative ways to involve children in reading, and demonstrate potential to impact student learning.
To be eligible, applicants must be a member of AASL. (Note: the grant recipient also may be invited to write an article that describes his or her project and includes learnings and recommendations so that others may replicate its success.) See the AASL website for complete program guidelines and application procedures.
