The Charleston Carnegie Public Library Board is seeking a creative and dynamic leader who will work closely with the Library Board, staff and community to serve the 21,838 people in Charleston. The successful candidate will represent the Library within the community, develop collections, manage the 14-person staff team, and provide strong financial skills to manage the budget. The new Director will also provide vision for the library and should possess a positive, achievement-oriented attitude.
Charleston is a university town with easy access to Chicago, St Louis and Indianapolis. The library is a 29,000 square foot facility including a 7.2-million-dollar expansion and library renovation in 2009. Its community rooms are used over 1,300 times per year. It provides nearly 400 programs per year from infant to senior citizen with a summer read program of over 300.
We will select someone with excellent leadership and communications skills, innovative approaches to organizing and problem solving, strong skills in fostering community relations, knowledge of library trends and technology, and the ability to foster a team environment. Compensation negotiable and is commensurate with experience including a comprehensive benefit package.
This full time position (38 hours/wk):
- prefers a MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited school
- requires at least two years of library experience
- requires experience managing budgets
