SHARE Update - 87 Days to Polaris

We've hit the ground running! Since Friday, January 4, we have conducted nine QuickStart and Offline Circ training sessions in five locations. Of the 121 library staff members trained in those sessions, approximately 75 of them participated in the Train the Trainer program, and will be training the rest of the staff in their libraries.
 
Next up! Watch for a schedule of training for Cataloging (including barcoding), Intermediate Circ, Advanced Circ, Serials, and more!
 
If you are registered for an event, and are unable to attend, please contact the presenter identified on L2. Though we have publicly announced that there will be no snow or ice on training days, we will let you know if a class is cancelled due to inclement weather. If you ordered hardware from the SHARE credits program, the equipment has all physically arrived in our offices. We are in the process of sorting it out and getting individual library orders ready for pickup. We will be in contact about various ways to pick up your equipment from around our area.

LibPAS Webinars Next Week

On January 16 and 17, Counting Opinions will host two different training Webinars on using the LibPAS system, a Web-based service used by library organizations to capture, consolidate, process, report and compare library performance metrics.

FY 2012-2013 IPLAR

The Illinois State Library is pleased to release the FY2012-2013 Illinois Public Library Annual Report (IPLAR) data collection tool using the LibPAS software for data collection.

To access the Illinois Public Library Annual Report using the LibPAS portal, you will need to know your library’s Illinois State Library User Name and Password. If you need assistance with this information, contact Becky Hunter, Illinois State Library, bhunter1@ilsos.net, 217-782-7849, or 1-800-665-5576, ext. 2. You will also need Adobe version 8.0 or higher for PDF printing.

Applications are now available for the 18th Small Public Library Management Institute (SPLMI). Sponsored by the Illinois State Library and hosted by the University of Illinois Springfield, the Institute will be held June 2-7, 2013. The weeklong Institute is intended for directors of all sizes of libraries who are either new to their position or new to the Illinois library community.

Public Library Summer Reading Survey

The State Library encourages Illinois public libraries to complete a Public Library Association/Institute of Museum and Library Services survey aimed at identifying the different types of summer reading programs available in public libraries across the country.  January 31 is the deadline to complete the survey, which can be found at http://summerreading.pla.org/.

REQUIRED Annual Library Certification Continues

During the second week of the Annual Library Certification process, more than 500 libraries have submitted their online forms. Remember that this is a requirement for any current full or developmental system member library. The online form is available at http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/library/libraries/librarycertification.html.

The Annual Certification Process is required for all library system members to qualify for system services and programs/services from the Illinois State Library. The window for this certification began January 2 and will be open through March 31, 2013. Questions about the process should be emailed to ISL Library Development Group at isl_certify@ilsos.net.

GSLIS IL offers an intensely practical introduction to the design and construction of library buildings.
 
LIS 548, Library Buildings,  is aimed in particular at librarians who are faced with structural problems or who are facing space planning, remodeling, or new construction. The course places particular emphasis on the problems that occur in the design and construction of libraries and how these can be avoided.

Jesse White Visits Rochester Public Library

Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian Jesse White visited the Rochester Public Library, meeting with staff and patrons and taking a tour of the library.  He presented the library with the "2012 Commitment to Community" Award.
