Library Director (Lincolnwood Public Library, Illinois)

The Lincolnwood Public Library District seeks a dynamic, outgoing, and creative library director to provide the strategic vision and leadership to successfully implement both traditional and innovative services and technologies. We are looking for a leader who excels at building partnerships, empowering staff, and collaborating with other community agencies in a politically savvy environment; a librarian who can articulate, support, and promote the library’s mission to create and sustain a sense of place for residents, bring the community together in order to celebrate its diversity, offer individuals a welcoming gateway to knowledge and discovery, and fulfilling residents’ desire for cultural and recreational activities.

Lincolnwood, located on the northern border of Chicago, about 13 miles north of downtown Chicago has a population of 12,590.  The library is a focal point of the community, with strong public support. Over 47 languages are spoken in the Lincolnwood schools. The collection includes over 55,000 items, with an annual circulation of nearly 150,000. The staff consists of 42 employees (24.3 FTEs), and the library’s annual revenues exceed $ 2,200,000. The director will work with an excellent staff and a strong, effective board in a successful cooperative environment.  LPLD has an excellent facility and stable finances.

Minimum Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library education program, plus 5 years professional public library experience with demonstrated management ability in administration, budgeting, planning, fundraising, and supervision. Fiscal and budgeting expertise is essential.  The successful candidate will have a strong philosophy of customer service, the ability to attract and maintain a talented staff, and embrace the library’s values, including innovation, trust, staff participation, and team management. Salary: $90,000.00, depending on qualifications.
