IHLS Holiday Closing

All IHLS offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day  on Monday, May 27, 2013. Delivery and Talking Book Services will not be provided. Additional routes may run on Tuesday to compensate for volume.

WorldShare Interlibrary Loan

OCLC’s new resource sharing service, WorldShare® Interlibrary Loan, is available for your use. As a member of the Illinois group, you have the unique opportunity participate in a managed migration from WorldCat Resource Sharing to the new service. Do not miss out on this opportunity to receive training and get comfortable with WorldShare ILL. In December 2013, access to WorldCat Resource Sharing will end and OCLC resource sharing will continue through WorldShare Interlibrary Loan for all users worldwide.

Public Libraries: Non-Resident Fee Survey

IHLS is required to maintain a list on the IHLS website of non-resident program information from IHLS public libraries and to indicate whether or not a library participates in the non-resident fee program and what that fee is. Each year IHLS asks all IHLS public libraries for this information. This information is being gathered by a survey found at this link http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RYLPJX7. The deadline for completion of the survey is June 15, 2013.

 

Each public library board is required to take action each year on whether to participate in the non-resident program and to determine the fee for non-resident cards. Additional information on the non-resident fee program can be found on the Illinois State Library website.

WorldShare Watch—IHLS

Many of you have read or heard about the OCLC migration from WorldCat Resource Sharing to WorldShare Interlibrary Loan.  Libraries in the US began switching to the new WorldShare platform in March.  The Illinois State Library, RAILS, and IHLS have been in communication with OCLC about the best migration timeline for Libraries in Illinois.  It is anticipated that training sessions for Illinois libraries on borrowing and lending in WorldShare  will begin in late May, 2013.  Libraries in the northern part of the state will begin training first, while the majority of libraries in IHLS will start training in late August.

GSLIS courses available Summer 2013

During the summer 2013 semester, seats are available in a number of on campus and online courses at the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Illinois. Formal admission to the University is not necessary, but a bachelor's degree is required.
