As IHLS embarks on its 9th year as an organization, we are energized by the possibility of further refining our current member services and expanding our horizons. Areas of focus for FY2020 include: an enhanced web presence for IHLS, a focus on public library trustee training, delivery training for all members, grant writing workshops for IHLS member libraries and focused outreach to our school library community.

This work is laid out in the FY20 Budget and Operational Plan.  But before the final submission to the IHLS Board of Directors and the Illinois State Library, we’d like to hear from you.

Design Thinking for Libraries is a one-day workshop that will empower you to tackle challenges. With support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and in partnership with Chicago Public Library, this full-day introductory workshop draws upon the toolkit developed by IDEO, an award-winning, human-centered global design firm, to help libraries use design thinking to better understand and service library patrons. The program will take a step-by-step approach to guide you through the process of understanding design thinking, so you can put it into practice at your library.

On May 7, IHLS Executive Assistant Stacie Bushong met with U.S. Representative Rodney Davis at the Sorento Municipal Center where he was meeting with constituents.

Each public library board is required to take action each year on whether to participate in the non-resident program and to determine the fee for non-resident cards.

The deadline for completion of the survey is June 30, 2019.

All IHLS offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, 2019.
