The 2020 Census is just around the corner, and IHLS, Illinois Complete Count Commission, and the Illinois State Library are asking libraries to do their part in making sure as many people are counted as possible—and it's imperative we do so to help ensure Illinois gets our fair share of federal funding. Here's why it matters and what Illinois libraries can do.

Request for Comments

At the January meeting of the Illinois Heartland Library System Board of Directors, the new proposed Public Comment Policy (PDF) was approved by the board in a first reading and is now being sent out for member comment.

At times, the Cataloging Maintenance Center (CMC) has the privilege not only of cataloging challenging items, but also items that are, weirdly, a lot of fun to work with (if you are a cataloger).

Be a Voice for Illinois Libraries. ILA Legislative Meet-Up Days

Once again, Illinois Library Association has arranged its spring 2020 series of legislative events as opportunities for you to meet with your state and federal legislators and speak with them about issues affecting you and your library. Library trustees, directors, and staff from public, school, and academic libraries are encouraged to attend and participate.

Three of these meet-ups are in the central and southern Illinois areas, including events in Edwardsville, Effingham, and Bloomington-Normal.

Pink Tubs in Edwardsville

The IHLS Delivery hubs have been a sea of tubs this week! The Delivery department would like to thank all of you for your patience as we are hard at work sorting your items.

IHLS has made a group purchase of 250 copies of Serving Our Public 4.0: Standards for Illinois Public Libraries.

Every individual Illinois library staff member and trustee should have an L2 profile.

In 2020 there will be a total restructure and refresh of L2 that will result in a more robust and flexible platform that better suits the ongoing needs of all those who use L2.

Update L2 now so you and your library are ready for the new version.
