Fossil Ridge Public Library District

The Fossil Ridge Public Library District is looking for a proactive, approachable Director. The ideal candidate is willing to embrace the rural lifestyle of the community and will have strong marketing skills, be flexible when necessary, and build on the strengths of an excellent staff. Fossil Ridge serves 14,803 residents living in seven communities southwest of Joliet, Illinois through its recently renovated building and a bookmobile. The District employs 17 staff members and has a budget of just over $1 million. A priority for this role is growing relationships with municipal governments and promoting services to all residents.

The Director reports to a 7 member, elected Board of Trustees. Minimum qualifications for the position include a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program and at least 5 years of related work and 2 years of supervisory experience. The candidate must have excellent communication skills, experience marketing the Library to patrons and stakeholders, knowledge of budgeting, and strong leadership attributes. Familiarity with a bookmobile is a plus. They must provide the proper setting for the recruitment, development, and evaluation of talented, customer-friendly employees.

Fossil Ridge is a small but mighty Library with a Board of Trustees who serve without personal agendas. The Board supports their Director and the staff. The staff is dedicated and creative with a history of providing outstanding programs. Both the Trustees and the employees are looking for a committed leader to guide them in creating the Library’s next strategic plan.

This is a full-time, exempt position with an annual salary starting at $62,000.00, based on experience. The Library also offers a benefits package including paid sick leave, 3 weeks of vacation after 1 year, competitive health insurance, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund.
