mounds library/ Eunice:  hello everyone

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  Poop, I missed it!  I could go for one right about now.  LOL

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  tomorrow is "It's Raining Cats & Dogs" program here... but its gonna SNOW instead!!!

Darcy Wallace Watseka Public Library:  Today we had a master gardener come from the Illinois Extension and it was a big success! Tonight it's family reading night at the Elementary School and tomorrow I'm off to Reaching Forward South

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Kathleen - who says you can't make one?

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  @Darcy---that's a full calendar!  Who else is heading to Reaching Forward South?

Heather, Maryville Library:  @Darcy--love the master gardeners, they offer so much!

Annette Columbia Public:  We had iCash here the other day and had a few drop in to see if they had money coming to them.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  Our "Not Jack Lalanne but Close" Senior exercise class 3x a week is a huge hit in Raymond! We have 9 regulars with up to 13 per class! For the past five months!

Vicki M Carr South Macon Public Library:  2 of my staff members are going. I am staying here and opening the library.

Sherry Waldrep - Allerton PL:  I'll be there!

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  @Sharla----what a service to your seniors.  @ Vicki----very kind of you.

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  iCash is cool. they've been here before

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Sharla - wow!  That's great!  I wish we had space...

Esther Curry--CE Brehm Memorial PLD:  @Kathleen-Our local Catholic school has a Momargarita night every spring. LOL

Annette Columbia Public:  Senator Terri Bryant will also be here in May

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Sara, a friend told me about your 'cats and dogs' event today! What a great community event with the pet group there!

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  @Annette---is she doing a program for you.  She's very personable.

Darcy Wallace Watseka Public Library:  @Sharla that sounds fun, does someone lead the class or is it a video/virtual?

Annette Columbia Public:  @Sara.  Yes, it was a great having Paris.  Very positive feedback about her.

Vicki M Carr South Macon Public Library:  we just had kids' night last night and a local author on the 20th.

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  Esther & Jo, both sound like good ideas!

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Darcy oooh I will have to get on that, we have a few patrons who are master gardeners. That would have been a great Earth Day program!

Bill from Brehm Library:  We are having George Portz and the Friends of Bluegrass here on the 16th to do a concert

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  I'm setting up our next story walk this afternoon.  The book is "What Happened to You?" by James Catchpole.  We chose that book in honor of April being Limb Loss Awareness Month.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  We're having a "Fire Safety and Prevention in Raymond" program at the end of the month with our fire Captain coming over to do a fire prevention talk.

Annette Columbia Public:  @Ellen.  She was here and plans to return for a storytime with  Michael  Frerichs.

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  I heard from a local author name Alexandria LaFaye today, and she wants libraries to know she's available for visits and readings.

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  She is based out of Greenville.

Angie -- Trenton Public:  @Jo --- Fantastic choice!

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  Sharla, who does your exercise program?  Do they have training?  I've wanted to try chair yoga here at the library.

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  I know Alexandria!  She is wonderful!

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.alafaye.com%2F&data=05%7C01%7C%7C5a1d3417254f4f3a455908da1e41c9d4%7Cad3877b36b3b4c2c878f78e3a8da1075%7C0%7C0%7C637855565191182431%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=qLNCtAd3Mb7eYKIlTW81rPpl%2BAlLuxYGN2m%2BYTnx%2F9c%3D&reserved=0

Bill from Brehm Library:  The Master Gardeners provide good and FREE programs. We use them about twice a year

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  Anything challenging you this week?

Darcy Wallace Watseka Public Library:  Time management ;)

Carrie Winkelmann - Petersburg PL:  Budget

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Kathleen- More Life Health Seniors by Mike, a senior PT from Australia. I choose an hour's worth of videos of his off of youtube selections (50/60 vids) and it is FREE. We all love his videos.

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  How about some favorite tips to share with Darcy?

Michelle Sawicki Barclay PLD:  I'm down to 4 staff members and don't know if I can hire any more. Waiting for those tax extensions to be published. We had a 25% loss in our population due to annexations.. So that is making each day pretty rough.

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Ellen - too many ideas - never enough time or $$$

Darcy Wallace Watseka Public Library:  @Michelle, that is awful!

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  @Michelle wow! thats huge!

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  @Jo, I hope you have a wish drawer somewhere in which you can stash all those ideas and have them ready if/when money might become available!!!!

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  Thanks, Sharla!  Time management and no office space to "escape" to for concentration time.

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Michelle - I'm sorry.  That's tough.

Debbie Greene:  I would love to know how each of you keep up with things like  new "historical fiction series," etc.?

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  @Michelle!  I am so sorry to hear that!

Annette Columbia Public:  Can anyone tell me what library Shari Rawlings is with?

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Ellen - I don't have a wish drawer, but I do have a wish file folder in a drawer.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  I am very stoked that we have only used half of our budget in nine months. Is it bad to come under budget (like in gov't entities if you don't utilize your budget you get less next year?)

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  Shari is at Hope Welty in Cerro Gordo.

Bill from Brehm Library:  It depends are you a District?

Annette Columbia Public:  @Ellen - Thank you.  She was interested in our old book return.

Bill from Brehm Library:  @ Sharla

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Bill-yes, we are a District.

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  That library (Cerro Gordo) is in temporary quarters.  Last summer, a wall from the building adjacent to their library collapsed and made their building unsafe.  It appears the owner of the building is non-responsive, so nothing has been done to resolve the situation.

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  Debbie, do you mean what's coming out next in a series, or totally new-to-you authors?

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  Another challenge - our grounds person turned in his resignation, so I'm looking for someone to mow before all this rain creates knee high grass!

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  @Jo we just dealt with that too...

Debbie Greene:  Either one would be good.  I seem to be constantly finding things I do not know about!

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  One huge impact on our budget was getting our lighting changed out with an Ameren grant. We will be saving on our electric bill forever with that huge change. Plus, having lighting that enables users of our rooms to SEE.

Carol, Ashley Public:  @Sharla  Do you just play your You Tube videos on your tv?

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Sara - I'm thinking I will have to add mowing to my list of duties.

Sherry Waldrep - Allerton PL:  @Debbie - For any of our series books, we place a small label inside the front cover with the name of the series and the book number.

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  @Jo and i'm thinking of hiring my 16 year old LOL

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Sara - haha!  My son already turned me down...

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @Carol, yes, we have a Smart TV and I just jump up and change vids when we are ready. There is an hour one we do every few weeks.

Sherry Waldrep - Allerton PL:  Debbie - I use Library Journal - there is always an 'ad' page announcing new historical fiction Debbie Greene:  Great! Thank you!

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  we recently lost our janitor too. now we have a roomba and staff cleans the rest. So far so good

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  Debbie, I go through each month's Forecast publication for Baker & Taylor for releases in the series we already get.  I'd like to know how others find new series, too.  We add the series names and # on the spine label, too.

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Sara - I like the idea of a roomba!

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Sara, I'd love a building as big as yours to warrant a Roomba!

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  @Jo its pretty cool. I can control it on my phont

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  To expand on Debbie's question, are any of you using NoveList?

Carol, Ashley Public:  @Sharla Do you need a license to play videos from You Tube?

Bill from Brehm Library:  @ Sharla Our district has established a special reserve fund in which leftover funds go. This fund can only be used for the acquisition of property, building and renovation.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Carol...no, you don't!

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Sara - whoa!  That is cool!

Vicki M Carr South Macon Public Library:  We use Fantastic Fiction.

Carol, Ashley Public:  @Sharla  How very nice!!!

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  Myrtle (our roomba) runs from 6:45pm all night long

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  @Sara---wow!!!!!  Does it get stuck from time to time?

Debbie Greene:  Question regarding book clubs.  Is the best way for each member of a book club to read a book thru e-books?

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  @Ellen... not so far... and the cat ignores her too!

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  Thank you, Bill good to know.

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  Ellen, is it online or a print publication?  I'm also looking for good fantasy series for tweens/teens that are pretty tame.

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  It's online.  I know that Bill and Esther use it at Mt. Veron.

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe NoveList is an EBSCO product.

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  @Debbie... when we did book club, i ordered multiple print copies

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Carol, it is such a wonderful class. The best program I've ever done. Two 90+, most 75+ and a few yunguns like myself. We all have realized improvements in posture, balance and strength.

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  SARA, YOU HAVE A CAT!!!!  OMG!  I've got to visit your library!

Esther Curry--CE Brehm Memorial PLD:  Yes, Novelist is EBSCO. It's a very good resource. I wish it would get more use.

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  @Kathleen, we do indeed! Her name is Stacks and she is almost famous! Just ask her

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Ellen - you are correct

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Debbie, I have two BC members who do ebooks, the rest I just order through our wonderful SHARE system. We have about 10 members now with two new last month.

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  Is Novelist free?

Rachel R - Steeleville:  @Debbie, most of our book club members want print copies

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Sara, yes she is as famous for her being a library cat as she is for her beauty!

Debbie Greene:  OK.  Thank you.  Our budget is so limited that I am not sure that we can buy print copies for everyone.

Carol, Ashley Public:  @Sharla  You Tube would really help with programming. Might find something helpful for Summer Reading Program.

Esther Curry--CE Brehm Memorial PLD:  @Kathleen--no, the fee is based on your service population.

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  lol Sharla don't tell her that!!

Darcy Wallace Watseka Public Library:  We are getting Hoopla and I was thinking about trying to do a Hoopla Book Club

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Debbie - can everyone order a copy of the book through ILL?

Debbie Greene:  Maybe so....

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  @Jo, I don't see why not.  I can see people wanting personal copies as an option.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  I was telling my new clerk the weird things you will find in books, I held up a recent requested book and the #1 "weird thing" I was talking about was sticking out of it. Long tabby colored cat hair.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Ellen, that's what we've been doing with out book club for years. GULP, never thought it could be a wrong use of SHARE.

Debbie Greene:  I guess ILL would be a good option - as long as we didn't abuse it.  I wasn't sure if that was ok to do, but if so, then sure.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  *OUR

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  @Sharla---that's what SHARE is there for and that's the beauty of the size of SHARE----those copies are probably always available unless it is something hot off the press.

Rachel R - Steeleville:  We try to choose books that aren't super new for book club so that we're not hoarding all the copies of the new popular titles

Ellen Popit/IHLS:  Speaking of SHARE---who got to go to the birthday party on Monday---it was such fun!

Debbie Greene:  How   DO  you select your books?

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Ellen - it was fun!  Thank you to everyone who arranged it.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Ellen and Rachel, right, we do older books, never hot new ones. When we vote on our book lists in Oct of every year, we save the new ones to us, then, for the last months of next year's book list.

Esther Curry--CE Brehm Memorial PLD:  @Ellen-It was fun! Hard to believe that it's been 10 years.

Rachel R - Steeleville:  @Debbie A staff member chooses 4-5 books in a certain genre every month and members vote for the winner, and that's the one we read next.

Sara - LitchfieldPLD:  @Debbie -- for book club? members suggest titles and then we vote Debbie Greene:  Good deal!

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Debbie - we have a book selection committee.  They each turn in a list of possibilities.  Our head librarian goes through the list and checks to see what we already have, what our patrons are waiting for, etc.  It then comes to me for final approval, budget wise.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Debbie, at our October BC meeting we all submit books for next year's list -then we vote on them to make next year's book list. Our book club book for Monday's meeting is "Shutter Island".

Jo Keillor - Greenville Public Library:  @Debbie - oops.  Were you referring to book club selections?

Debbie Greene:  So many good ideas!  Thank you all!

Debbie Greene:  Well book club selections.    I learn lots from you all, so nothing is wasted!

Kathleen Rister - Groff Memorial:  I missed the party.  I got tied up with a young lady who is signing up for our first English as a Second Language class.  The local college is offering them here at the library.  She didn't speak much English, and my Spanish is really rusty.  We used Google to translate.  I'm so excited!

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  The one we'll be going over on Monday's BC meeting is "Red At the Bone". We all get excited reading the same book. I have a top shelf for our monthly book and patrons like to read them too.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  Has anyone hosted a Farmer's Market through their library? I hope I'm not too late for one this year>

IHLS Admin 3:  Sharla, I believe that the Rochester library hosts a farmer's Market.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  Sorry for typos, I have a big fat very loving Calico between me and my keyboard.

Debbie Greene:  So, would the Bregdan Chronicles Hisotrical Fiction Series be good?

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @IHLS Admin, I need to hook up with them STAT!

Michelle Sawicki Barclay PLD:  @Sharla, we found a sandwich closed in a book before at a library I worked at in Michigan

IHLS Admin 3:  Here's the link to the SHARE birthday video---it will take many of you down memory lane and you'll see lots of familiar faces:  https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTS1WjbnpKgI&data=05%7C01%7C%7C5a1d3417254f4f3a455908da1e41c9d4%7Cad3877b36b3b4c2c878f78e3a8da1075%7C0%7C0%7C637855565191182431%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=QKcisXDRihmFoQ0wF6o75PDlvCbJy1ghr%2BL9B4I4yM8%3D&reserved=0

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Amy, thank you so much, getting in touch with her right now. We have so much talent here in Raymond, that I would love to provide a source for sales to them.

IHLS Admin 3:  There are still some seats left for our HR Source webinar next Wednesday.  The topic is clear communication and you can register on L2:  https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flibrarylearning.org%2Fevent%2F2022-04-13%2Fcrisp-clear-concise-formula-effective-communication&data=05%7C01%7C%7C5a1d3417254f4f3a455908da1e41c9d4%7Cad3877b36b3b4c2c878f78e3a8da1075%7C0%7C0%7C637855565191182431%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=leafXtdk5w5smtFHnFpmUreqxq2ZtkVHxd3m4mjY1ek%3D&reserved=0

IHLS Admin 3:  The HR Source webinars take place in real time, however they are available for one week to those who have registered, so if you can't make it on Wednesday, you can still register and watch sometime during the following week.

IHLS Admin 3:  @Sharla and all.  I'm just ready for warm weather and all outdoor markets.

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  I'm also ready for warm weather. I hate this yo-yoing of temps in the spring.

IHLS Admin 3:  Have you all been following the news about book challenges?  Leah watched the Senate Hearing this morning  and their was a piece on the PBS News Hour last night about Texas.

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  I am actually dealing with a book challenge in one of our member schools today!

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @IHLS Admin, I just registered for that webinar right now. Good to know about delayed ability to watch. Thank you, I certainly can improve my clarity, crispness and concision with my communication.

Darcy Wallace Watseka Public Library:  The previous director received an Il Humanities Covid 19 Recovery General Operations Grant and we have been trying to espense it out, if anyone would like to do some hand holding and review that my expenditures are good choices, feel free to private message me or email me at watsekadirector@gmail.com Carol, Ashley Public:  Change of subject: Heard The Godfather was now 50 yrs old. Got the dvd in and watched it last night.

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  The hearing was uplifting. Some people are fighting for libraries, books, and kids.

IHLS Admin 3:  Good for you, Carol!

Carol, Ashley Public:  @IHLS Admin 3  Yes, it's time to relax and enjoy.

Sharla Riley~ Doyle Public Library:  @ Carol. Excellent! Through our exchange program I got Godfather's 1, 2 and 3 for our movie display.

Carol, Ashley Public:  @Sharla  Great idea!

IHLS Admin 3:  Seems just like yesterday that the Godfather was a first run!

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  John (one of our IT department) and I were just talking about The Godfather here this morning.

IHLS Admin 3:  As we wrap up, I can share the we just watched CODA last week and loved it.  Get out your hankies!

IHLS Admin 3:  Has anyone else seen it?

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  I have not, but it's on my list.

IHLS Admin 3:  If you have the time, it's well worth it!

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  I keep a list of movies I want to see, because whenever my husband and I sit down to actually watch something, we could never think of a movie.

Leah Gregory, IHLS:  So, whenever I hear of one, I put it on a list on my phone.

IHLS Admin 3:  I think we're all talked out for the day.  Thanks to all!  See you next week---hope we're deep into beautiful spring weather
