About the Organization
The mission of the Bryan-Bennett Library is to provide the community and general public with open and equal access to intellectual, educational and recreational resources and to promote awareness of informational services in order to meet patrons’ present and future needs.
In this effort, the Library cooperates with other libraries and educational, cultural, community and governmental agencies and institutions.
The Library Board and staff resolve to make sure that books are in the hands of the current Bryan-Bennett Library patron base and to enlarge the patron base so that anyone in this area has access to information they need and want. With respect to this objective, the Board and staff will seek out new opportunities such as cooperative agreements, outreach activities, and technological innovations that expand Bryan-Bennett Library’s ability to reach and serve more people.

Job Description and Responsibilities
Job Summary: Serves as the administrative head of the city’s public library. Plans, organizes, directs, evaluates and reviews the Library’s resources, services and programs. Serves as the chief personnel officer of the Library and the vehicle of two-way communication between the staff and Library Board. Serves as the chief public relations officer of the Library. Represents the Library in the community and the library profession. Receives general supervision from the Library Board.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Administration of the budget as set forth by the Library Board and participatory role in the development of that budget.
-General oversight of all functions of the Library operations.
-Training all supervisory employees.
-Training non-supervisory employees, when such training cannot be conducted by a supervisor.
-Has final approval of collection acquisitions/development for all areas of adult and children’s collections.
-Attends Board and Board committee meetings.
-Maintains knowledge and expertise in relevant areas of technology, applications and services.
-Responsible for all areas of personnel management including, but not limited to, selection, evaluation, wage/salary recommendations, maintenance of step scale and dismissals.
-Integral participant in programming development strategies.
-Conducts evaluation of Bryan-Bennett policy and procedures manual and reports findings with recommendations to the Board.
-Coordinates assessment of policies as part of review of state standards.
-Prepares all annual grants and reports required by the state.
-Attends conferences, workshops and other continuing education events.
-Shares responsibility for response/assistance in complex reference questions.
-Coordinates public relations and marketing.
-Liaison to the City and attends City department head meetings.
-Fundraising with the Friends.
-Receives the mail and distributes to the appropriate parties or designates appropriate staff to do so.
-Approves bills when they come in.
-Monitors internet and telephone system use by employees.
-Updates website, monitors library social media.
-Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements to Apply
Associate's Degree in Applied Science with Library Technical Assistant Certification or higher. Two or more years experience working in a library setting. Strong leadership and good communication skills. General knowledge of library organization and the Dewey Decimal System. -
