    Position Summary:
    The Public Services Assistant plays a key role in the daily operations of our library, providing exceptional customer service and supporting the library’s mission, vision, and values. This position involves utilizing a variety of skills to enhance the library experience for patrons, ensuring consistent and excellent service through problem-solving, conflict resolution, and leading by example. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a passion for supporting colleagues and patrons alike.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
    Embrace and promote the library’s mission, vision, and values in every interaction.
    Uphold ALA’s Library Bill of Rights, Code of Ethics, and the Freedom to Read statement.
    Provide outstanding customer service in person, via phone, and email.
    Effectively interpret, explain, and apply library policies and procedures to patrons.
    Create library displays and marketing materials.
    Contribute to the library’s online presence.
    Assist colleagues with special events and other projects as assigned.
    Lead by example without supervisory responsibilities, demonstrating professionalism and dedication.

    Perform the duties of a Circulation Assistant, including:
    Checking out materials, placing holds, and processing library card applications.
    Orienting patrons to library services and answering general inquiries.
    Processing returns and shelving materials.

    Assist with Adult Services, including:
    Providing support with scanning, faxing, and copying services.
    Offering assistance with research using online resources.
    Delivering notary, proctoring, and passport application services.
    Processing interlibrary loan requests.
    Providing basic computer and device troubleshooting assistance.
    Maintaining scheduled hours and filling in as needed in the Adult Services department.

    Essential Skills & Abilities:
    Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with a diverse group of people.
    Excellent multitasking abilities and the ability to prioritize tasks while meeting the needs of library patrons.
    Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
    Collaborative team player with a positive attitude and willingness to assist colleagues.

    Essential Education & Experience:
    A minimum of 3 years of customer service experience, preferably in a library setting.
    Other relevant education and experience will be considered.

    Essential Physical Requirements:
    Ability to regularly lift up to 40 pounds.
    Must be able to sit, stand, reach, crouch, and perform repetitive tasks as required.
    Regular and predictable attendance is a requirement.

    Schedule:
    The schedule includes two evenings per week and two Saturdays per month.
    Flexibility to adjust the schedule based on the needs of the library.
