Job Description and Responsibilities
The Data Services Librarian will develop and implement innovative data services outreach to support our students, faculty, and staff.
Data and Research Services:
Developing instructional programming, resources, and workshops on data-related topics (i.e., identification, analysis, visualization, cleaning, etc.)
Shaping the Libraries’ data services initiatives, including collaboration with librarians, teaching faculty, and other campus partners to integrate data literacy into course projects and curricula.
Consulting with individuals and/or teams on project development, including the recommendation of tools, resources, and methods, and supporting researchers throughout the research data lifecycle.
Serving as the liaison to, and collaborating with, other campus units that support research data services such as the Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships (RIPS).
Contributing to the development of policies and procedures related to data management and sharing, including compliance with funding agency and publisher requirements.
Creating and maintaining data-related research guides (LibGuides) and other instructional tools (tutorials, online learning modules, etc.) to help students, faculty, and staff effectively use data services.
Assisting and collaborating with library faculty and staff with the creation and evaluation of data management plans, analysis of research impact, and development of grant proposals.
Providing general reference services (in-person and virtual) including some nights and weekends, as well as in-depth research consultations in liaison areas.
Research, Scholarship, and Service Activities
Developing a focused program of high-quality research and creative accomplishments, consistent with professional responsibilities and the Libraries’ mission and goals.
Actively participating in, and demonstrating leadership, on committees that serve the Libraries, University, profession, and community. -
Minimum Requirements to Apply
Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent degree
Two or more years of recent professional experience working in research data management, data services, or a related field.
Demonstrated knowledge of common data services and data information literacy competencies.
Demonstrated knowledge and of data management fundamentals, best practices and standards, funding agency requirements, and research data management issues and trends. -
