    The Bloomington Public Library is seeking a Circulation & Outreach Services Manager that values service, encourages innovation, and can lead our busy Circulation-Outreach Department in delivering positive patron experiences at our front desk, implementing outreach engagement initiatives, and coordinating our Bookmobile, Deposit, Home Delivery, and Pop-Up Library services.

    The Bloomington Public Library provides library services to the 78,680 residents of the City of Bloomington and the 8,252 residents of the Golden Prairie Public Library District, a library district contracting with the Bloomington Public Library for library services.

    This position reports to the Assistant Director, serves on the Library’s management team, and is responsible for successfully leading and developing 10 full-time staff, including an Assistant Manager, and 14 part-time staff.

    The ideal candidate will be highly organized, dynamic, a problem solver, and demonstrate strong communication skills. The candidate must possess management and leadership skills and be able to work collaboratively with staff throughout the Library.

    Critical Elements of Performance:
    • Lead day-to-day operation and management of all facets of the Circulation-Outreach department, including service points inside and outside the Library
    • Develop and implement departmental and library-wide goals
    • Serve on the management team, collaborating to improve library services
    • Interview, hire, train, supervise, discipline, and evaluate staff in a union environment
    • Build a strong team environment through consistent communication and positive reinforcement
    • Identify community needs and initiate change
    • Organize and administer departmental tasks, utilizing and applying technical expertise and knowledge
    • Maintain a current knowledge of integrated library systems and relevant emerging technologies for circulation services
    • Create and evaluate departmental workflows, procedures, and training documents
    • Participate in professional activities and/or community groups with cooperative interests
    • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility, managing applicable budgets and forecasting budget needs

  • Minimum Requirements to Apply

    Qualifications:
    • ALA-accredited Master’s degree required
    • Two years of progressively responsible training or experience required
    • One year of supervisory experience required
    • Experience with Polaris ILS preferred
