  • Job Description and Responsibilities

    • Under the supervision of the Director, prepares library materials for use in the collection by electronically attaching barcodes to bibliographic records
    • Performs a variety of tasks related to the physical processing of library materials
    • Uses the library’s catalog software to create, edit, and delete item records
    • Prepares library materials for public use by preparing and applying labels, covers, and other physical packaging components
    • Mends library materials in all formats
    • Monitors inventory of processing supplies and requests restocking as necessary
    • Sorts and routes mail and package deliveries
    • Barcodes newspapers and magazines using the library’s catalog software
    • Assists with deletion and de-processing of library materials
    • Performs basic data maintenance tasks using the library’s catalog software
    • Manages interlibrary loan processes, using OCLC and library’s circulation software
    • Processes the library’s overdue items list and notifications
    • Performs administrative computer tasks, such as updating the library’s website, coordinating social media posts, creating marketing materials using Canva and Microsoft Office Suite, updating software, and preparing new computers for library use
    • Assists patrons with locating, circulating, and placing holds for library materials
    • Assists with library event programming duties
    • Participates in departmental and library-wide training and activities, including technology and safety training
    • Provides excellent internal and external customer service
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Minimum Requirements to Apply

    • Ability to learn routine tasks and perform them repetitively and efficiently
    • Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
    • Strong knowledge of computer use
    • Ability to learn and use the library’s catalog software
    • Ability to perform administrative computer tasks
    • Ability to work cooperatively with others as a team
    • Ability to maintain reliable attendance and regular schedule
    • Ability to prioritize work effectively based on customer needs
    • Strong commitment to public service
    • Ability to issue guidance and ensure compliance with the library’s rules of conduct and policies
    • Good vision to accurately apply labels, monitor supplies, and mend materials
    • Manual dexterity to operate computer and phone equipment
    • Familiarity with workplace productivity software, including skills in Microsoft Office Suite
    • Ability to attend off-site training
    • Physical ability to reach upper and lower book shelves, handle and lift library materials weighing approximately 40 pounds, push fully loaded carts of library materials, and occasionally lift and move some furniture
    • Satisfactory pre-employment background check
    • High School Diploma or GED required
    • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age

    Schedule, Pay, and Hiring Timeline
    • Tuesdays, 10:00 AM- 3:00 PM
    • Thursdays, 10:00 AM- 3:00 PM
    • Every fourth Saturday, 12:00 PM- 5:00 PM
    • Additional day, evening, and Saturday hours, as needed
