CMC: Cataloging Census Documents

Heidi Margold, a Cataloging Maintenance Center (CMC) cataloger, has been working on cataloging United States Census documents for Metropolis Public Library. These documents range from the very first census conducted in 1790 up to 1860.

  • The largest population jump so far was from 1990 to 2000, when the U.S. population grew by 32,712,033 people.
  • 1960 was the first year that questionnaires were sent to homes. Prior to this, all census were conducted by U.S. marshals through visiting homes door to door.
