Fall 2024 Mobile Memory Lab Visits
During November 2024 the Mobile Memory Lab made visits to Williamsville Public Library & Museum and Galesburg Public Library. Metadata Cataloger Kat Anderberg digitized a total of 33 items from three donors during these visits.
Kat will spend the next few months processing and cataloging the digitized materials before creating new Mobile Memory Lab collections in the Illinois Digital Archives. Some items to look forward to from these new collections include family photographs and records from Bice School, a historical school from Sangamon County. The new collections will be available to view online in Spring 2025.
These visits were funded by the grant received from Illinois Humanities in Spring 2023. The collections from the first round of visits, made in Fall 2023, are now available to view online: Marshall Public Library; Sparta Public Library; Hayner Public Library: Genealogy & Local History Library. Notable items from these collections include memorabilia from the Marshall, Illinois Dog 'n' Suds restaurant; photographs from the 1903 flood in Chester, Illinois; and a ring originally belonging to the donor’s grandmother.
The Cataloging Maintenance Center (CMC) provides statewide cataloging support for Illinois libraries, including free original and copy cataloging of eligible special collections, consultation on metadata projects, database cleanup for LLSAPs, cataloging training, and more. Funding for the CMC is provided through the Illinois State Library and the Secretary of State and administered by Illinois Heartland Library System.
