We would like to inform you of an important update regarding the project timeline for transit labels. We previously communicated that the transit labels would be turned off by July 2025; however, we made an error in that announcement. Delivery transit labels will not be turned off until December 31, 2025, at the earliest.

As you may know, IHLS staff rely on these labels to determine if an item is approved for barcode duplication at our hubs. While the current barcode duplication project is scheduled to end on December 31, 2025, we anticipate having more information about the progress of duplication at the hubs in the fall. This information will help us to determine when the transit labels can be turned off. The labels will continue to be essential for identifying the owning library and determining whether an item is approved for duplication.

We understand that libraries have different budgeting periods, and we wanted to provide this update in case you were planning to adjust your budget for transit paper. We will share further information as soon as we have more details following the installation of the new machines.

We apologize for any confusion caused by the earlier announcement and appreciate your understanding. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
